Should we expand the forum to cover other bikes?
« on: June 05, 2007, 02:39:38 AM »
Should we expand the forum to cover other bikes? A few members have already moved on to other bikes, which is to be expected , I even have thoughts myself on finding another steed. However they are usually dismissed at fist rev.

However this forum, has a lot of soul to it due to the caliber of our members and I hate to lose that just because of the bike they ride. We could start slow by expanding to include members news bikes, so we keep member and expand our general knowledge.  I think we could start with a 2002 Honda ST1100 category. Then a SV section!

Personally I voted yes. Everyone loves motorcycles. And there is so much to learn from other people who have different experiences on different bikes.
Adding other bikes to the forum would only enhance the forums appeal.

I think you should only cover the following bikes:

Sport Bikes
Drag Bikes
Dirt Bikes
Adventure Tourers
Sport Tourers
Trials Bikes
Cruisers
Choppers
Board trackers
flat trackers
Supermoto
2 strokes, 4 strokes.

and anything with:
a big thumper motor, V-twin, boxer, parallel twin, triple, Inline 4, V-4, 5's, and I6 (the big mean Honda CB), H6 (Valkyrie).
I can pretty much appreciate anything on 2 wheels for this site.

I think that's it!!!

Just kidding.  Realistically, opening this up to all Kawasakis is probably reasonable.

i voted no because there are a lot of other forums out there, but having a place to find dedicated info is dificult.  i do not have anything against other bikes or other sites, i would just like to keep it "pure".  Since it is not hard to join forums, it should not be a problem for those to join forums that fit the other bikes.  i myself am a member of 6 or 7 other forums, but only check or contribute to 2 regularly.

with this forum being segrigated(sp) it is easier to apply the knowledge to the bike, no "filtering" is needed. eg is that for the z1000, z750, z750s, or zr7, etc.

this has become my "primary" forum because of the fact that i don't have to "filter" the info, and for some reason 750cc buyer seems to mean down to earth, i am not trying to prove anything or beat an aircraft in a speed contest Kind of forum.

besides, we do have a "General Motorcycle Chat" section that can be used for the "other bikes"catagory.

I don't mind other bike owners being added to this forum as long as you can keep their technical issues separated. I love this forum because it is all about the bike I choose to own, but also enjoy chatting with others about their trips & adventures, accessories & gear. What I'm trying to say is if I'm looking for a cure for handle-bar vibration on my zee, I don't need everyone telling me how to fix a honda unless it works on a zee, but then again sometimes you have to look outside your box.

Go for it, the more the merry! I think we would all miss you or any others just because the bike has changed.

Oddly enough, I voted that we should keep this a Z750S forum.....and hopefully with the re-introduction of the Z in the States in the VERY near future (crossing fingers), there will be an influx of new members.

There are other forums (sportbike, kawasaki, ST <gasp> owners), but this is unique to the Kawi Z, and I think it should stay that way.  Besides, there is nothing from keeping troublesome people like me from joining and wreaking havoc on a daily basis (ok.....I REALLY call that cleaning out the spam scumballs...but...you know).

Even though I can't contribute much to the technical side of this forum, I really do enjoy "hanging" out with you guys (and gals) and learning more about your adventures with the Zed.   8)

My $0.02.

I'm pretty much in agreement w/ Christopher.  It's not the bike that makes this forum an enjoyable place to hang.  It's the REALLY COOL PEOPLE (yeah, everybody give yourselves a round of applause).  There should be a way to expand, while keeping what's good.  I think the people that voted against, are concerned about losing the small community feel, and rightly so.  Hopefully smart expansion can improve on what is already a good thing.

ha. tied it up with my "no" vote. i feel as though Z owners are somewhat unique in their kindness and intelligence. not that i want to exclude anyone, but opening the forum up to other riders might dilute the amazingness of this forum.

This, like any other forum is and should be open to anyone,  but I see no need to set up additional message areas just for their bikes!  This is zee750s.com :)

By the way, I am also a member (and more regular poster) on www.zx6e.net.  It's now been over a year since I had a zx6, but I still post there and so do quite a few others that have moved on to other rides.  It is about the companionship, but there just never will be the population to sustain dedicated areas to other bikes.

It is a tough call, there are valid arguments either way.  I don't think opening it up is going to hurt anything, but I do like the exclusiveness(sp) of just the one bike.  We usually all have the same pros and cons of the bike, as well as ways to fix the cons.  I don't think you would have that with a "general" bike forum.  So, it is a coin flip for me and the coin landed on it's side.  What are the chances of that?

I think it should stay a Zed forum mainly - but I dont think it would hurt to have an "Other bikes" section to encompass anything and everything....

Hence I voted for a "yes"....

Purist view from  me too - a section has already been set up for 'others' - maybe a link/banner exchange programme would be better ?

Edit: Just noticed that we already have an "Other motorcycle chat" section - could this perhaps just be renamed and the waifs and strays sent there!

huh. . .look at that, case closed. I guess Scott knew what he was doing when he set up the catagories. I was actually thinking expanding to a much larger level, however I'm a firm beliver in If it an't broke don't fix it, (except when it comes to motorcycles). I vote; That I must be on drugs.
