Member Ranks
« on: June 19, 2006, 11:48:07 PM »
Chris and I have toyed around with the idea of adding user ranks from time to time.

However, we're collectively not witty or clever enough (at least I'm not anyway...) to come up with good rank titles, so we're asking for your suggestions.

If you're not familiar with user ranks, they're just little titles that appear under your forum user name, and change based on the number of posts you have. For example, a member with 2 posts might be "New Z750 Rider", and a person that has a thousand posts might be "zee750s.com Elite" or something like that.

We can set them up to change at any post interval we want.

So what say you forum members? Yay, nay?

If yay, then how about some suggestions? Funny is good.

Your pal-

Scott

Great idea.  0-50 post's should be Z youngling,  50-150 z apprentice and 150-500 z jedi and 500+ z master jedi.  Of course I just like the idea so whatever is picked would work for me.  I'm not picky.

Is there any way, say beyond 500, it can be user defined?

Good question. I need to look into that. That might be an option via one of the forum software updates, not sure. Doesn't appear to be an option yet.

I *think* we could go in and give anyone anything we/they want as it stands right now, but it's a little awkward the way it's currently set up.

For instance, if a member requested "grumpy old man", we could create a rank called "grumpy old man", but it would be available to anyone. We'd then have to go into the profile of the member that requested it and select just that rank name for that member only. It would work, I think, but each name would show up as an option for everyone, at least as viewed by Chris and I. I guess we could just keep that list of custom ranks and change them as requested by users.

I agree though, it would be cool if the user could just change it themselves. That way no one is waiting on Chris or I to do it.

Maybe we should just go that route? Anyone want to volunteer for a test run?

Ok, so it seems we can give members whatever they want as a rank title, so if you contact me via PM or e-mail, I will hook you up.

I'll try to do it as soon as I can, but it may take up to a day or so.

For members that don't request a custom rank, we'll proceed with some sort of rank title system based on post counts alone. That may take a few more days to sort out, since all the custom titles will have to be re-instated one by one over the default titles based on post count.

Of course, Chris and I retain the right to edit your titles if they're obviously in poor taste or offensive, so apply a bit of common sense to your selection.

Mm-kay?
