DaddyO:
I know several of you have aftermarket seats. I know scottymac just got a new one, some of you have a Corbin and like and dislike it.  Plus I know Blueproof has a Mayer of some type.

So to start a thread, that one day may be worth stickying, here it is.

Post em if you got em.

I built my own, does that count?

I have put a couple thousand miles on this seat so far and am quite pleased with the results. There may be one or two tweaks I do before installing the new cover, but all that can wait for the next rainy day.

I tend to be the kind of person who will break something myself several times over before I let someone do it for me. With that in mind, I won a 2005 stock seat on ebay so that I could tinker with out holding up any riding. I had looked at several places for foam and other materials to re-pad the seat. In the end I chose stuff I had in the house already because the suited my needs and were cheap! The foam is high density closed cell type that was once a pad for sleeping on while camping. It has a good amount of give but never really lets you fully compress. For the extra squishy, I recycled the gel out of my keyboard and mouse pads. I had read complaints that sitting ON gel caused the unwanted effect of movement so I created a “gel sandwich” of sorts.

Here’s how I positioned the gel. After this, I cut into the foam and buried the gel.

Twistedpinion:
Next, I covered the gel with new foam from the sleeping pad. I also added a layer of foam to the front of the seat, but as you’ll see in later pictures, I changed that piece slightly..

Twistedpinion:
Here ‘tis with the stock seat cover reinstalled. I cut the foam in front of the gel at the sides so that I didn’t push my legs out any further. I also trimmed it back a touch for no other reason then it was getting harder to reinstall the cover with all the foam at the tip of the seat. Use 6mm staples with a boxed end. Even the biggest stapler we had could not sink the pointed staples.

Twistedpinion:
Installed. I’m now officially gelin’.
