stop n go tire pocket plugger <3<3<3
« on: April 15, 2011, 11:52:17 PM »
http://www.stopngo.com/products/plugger/1000.asp

i bought this kit mainly for use on the bike in case a get a flat while out riding. i haven't had to use it yet thankfully until last night.

i got home from work and noticed that one of my other car's tires was REALLY flat, like maybe it was holding 2-3 psi. it's had a slow leak for a while so i've just been watching it and inflating it more often than the others. there's plenty of useful tread on the set too so i don't want to throw out that usability. i think it progressed though as it's never lost this much air.

i went to fill it up and once i built some air pressure up i could hear a really quite hiss. that's new and i don't want to drive on it. the sound made it relatively easy to find the hole. it looked like maybe a puncture. there was nothing lodged in it. do i put the spare on? nah, i'll try to plug it!

i got the tire into some better light and found that i actually had TWO holes that were maybe 4 in apart. there was the previous one and a nice thick nail stuck in the other. the plugger worked really well and was easy to use. i used a drill to help ream the hole since i was at home. the hand-reamer works okay with some effort though. the only other thing you need is pliers to seat the plug. it even comes with a razor blade to trim off the excess plug.

it saved me from having to buy tires in a hurry, will help extend the life of the existing set, and the time of getting them changed when my life is UBER-busy right now. i may have a new favorite tool. Smile

Always make sure you've got a short wood screw with you when you go 4 a run out. Just screw it into the puncture, reinflate your tyre & job done...............gets you home!

That looks like a nice little kit.  Might have to look into that.  I have always plugged my own tires when I get punctures.  Saves a lot of money.

Good tip Blackrat.

I tested this kit for a friend before he took a 10,000-mile around-the-country tour last summer.  We took one of my worn-out tire carcasses and poked a few holes in it, and practiced plugging them with the tool.  He wanted to be thoroughly familiar with it before his trip.  Very easy to use.  But we've not yet had a chance to use it on a mounted tire.  Really cool tool, though.

I also carry a Slime Power Sport 12V air pump on my bike.  Fits under the seat of my ZRX (huge storage compartment; might not fit under a Z750 seat, but it is small and compact).  I've found them at local auto parts stores.  My plug kit (not the Stopngo) and air pump rescued a BMW rider stranded in the middle of nowhere in the eastern Washington semi-desert with a completely flat rear tire.

That's a nice kit Mike, I like how it has alligator clips for power.  Smart.

i've got the same compressor. :) underseat room on the 650 is REALLY small so it has to go in the tail bag.

Yep, it has both alligator clips for connecting to any battery, and a ring-terminal harness for permanent installation to your bike's battery.  As well as a cigarette lighter/DC port adapter.  All have an SAE connector that plugs into the pump's harness connector.  It's the same connector used on Battery Tender and other trickle chargers.  I bought a couple of extra ring-terminal harnesses (5 to 7 bucks each) and put one on each bike in my family.  That way the air pump or Battery Tender can connect to up to any of them!

Thread jack over, DJ; thanks for the report on the Stop n Go kit!

they're all tools so it's all good. the slime compressor is designed really well. like you said, the SAE connections make it very versatile.
