Tires
« on: June 15, 2011, 07:14:26 PM »
Just had the Michelin 2ct tires fitted. Wow. Only done a few miles but instantly better the the bridgestones I had on. Can really feel what's going on. Need to go scrub them in properly now.

Ok. Done about 150 miles on these now. Scrubbed out to about a half inch from the edge. They are amazing. Was raining this morning and is now sunny. Can't convey how good they feel wet and dry. Have changed the bike totally.

I replaced the original Dunlop Qualifiers a couple of weeks ago with Dunlop Roadsmarts. The new tyres make a massive difference, on the original tyres my chicken strips were 3/4 of an inch and it felt like you were right on the limit especially the front. I'm already down to about 1/4 inch on the Roadsmarts and they feel rock solid. Not really used them in the wet though. I will definitely get these again if they last reasonably.

I am running Mich Pilot Road 2's.
Great tire, I have over 13,000 kms on them and they are holding up great.
I just got back from "The tail of the dragon" and they performed really well.

I was looking at the michelins but went with the Avon storm 2 ultras after a mate recommended them.
Done about 6500 miles, loads of wear left in them. Ridden in all weathers an not a trace of chicken strips. Very pleased and will definately go with them again.
It is better to have tried and failed than to stand with those poor meek timid souls who know neither victory or defeat..

I'd highly recommend Bridgestone BT021s as well... very very solid tire, and definitely makes the bike feel planted.

No chicken strips here, either.. and breaking the rear tire free through exits is sooooo comfortable!

It was the bt21s I got rid of. Hated them. Just didn't feel right

nice honest review from several low to high end tires. I use the Dunlop Sportmax Q2 F/R on my Zee and I will probably buy them again even though the treadlife is lacking. The grip is unbelievable. You feel very planted even at extreme lean angles. Confidence inspiring tires.

I ran Dunlop Q2's, Michelin 2 ct"s and  Michelin Pures. I think that the Pures are best. The 2 ct's come in a very close second. The Dunlops are very good as well but they only last approx 1800 miles when ridden hard in the canyons. All of these tires give incredible grip and feedback. I would recommend any one of these tires unless you are looking for alot of milage. Keep in mind that I rarely ride in a staight line. The center of the tires had alot of tread left when the sides were bare.

Come on! Do you really have to rub it in?

All we have in Ontario are nice STRAIGHT roads.   >:(

Canadianshark i feel your pain. I am in North Dakota and i get excited when i see a hill....

Ii just put on Mich Pilot road 2's... i put 600 miles on them since installing them monday(father in law did it for me...good thing to because i would have messed it up doing it myself) and let me say HOLY HELL!!!!

I bought the bike with 4200 miles and stock tires with a very flat center to them and promptly put 2300 miles on those. the new tires are amazing(take this with a grain of salt as this is my first non cruiser and first new tires).

I found myself riding through a corner at 80 and going through a spot that was being hosed down by a farmer(i assume he dumped some fertilizer or something like that) and in the old tires would have probably wiped out..the new ones....right through like it wasn;t wet.

Ok enough gushing about the tires, i look forward to seeing what kind of milage i can pile on them =D

Dont worry - although we have nice twisty roads and roundabouts in the UK, I LONG for nice straight roads into work when theres snow and ice on the road!

You are a braver Man than I. When the snow flies my Zee will be basking in a heated garage for a long winter nap.
