swingarm and shock swap
« on: October 31, 2011, 12:56:03 AM »
Right ;)

due to my shock being fubarred at 18k I just got an 06 zx636 shock to replace it, and I am also swapping the horrible, nasty, cheap swingarm for a powdercoated zx6r J1 swingarm that I had lying around from my zx6r streetfighter project.

Trimmed a few mm off of the lower shock linkage bush so that I could fit the shock.

For now I am trial fitting the swingarm. It looks like the only issue in using the swingarm is that I will need spacers for each side of the swingarm pivot, about 15mm on each side.

It looks likely that I can simply fit the rear wheel using the spacers and spindle from the stock arm. The caliper hanger also fits, which is a bonus. Unfortunately I do not have any adjuster blocks for the swingarm so I am going to have to source some from ebay.

These zx6r swingarms can sell for pittance on ebay and look nicer than stock so worth considering

I plan to do this swap in a couple of months and I have most of the parts. So, I'm glad to hear that the stock brake bracket works.

Got some adjuster blocks, rear wheel spindle and spacer off of ebay for a tenner. No joy with spacers, not really tried as fell over and fucked my arm so probably no tinkering this weekend >:(

Right.
Managed to get out to the shed today. With a lot of fumbling around the swingarm is now secured in the frame.

However, upon reffiting back wheel I noticed that the rear wheel spindle is loose in the adjuster blocks ::) so I now have to source zx6r j wheel bearings,  and rear wheel spacers as well as a zx6r j caliper hanger. This is purely becoz the zx6r uses a 25mm spindle whereas the z750 uses a 20mm spindle. Oh and the chain is now too long. :P

looks good though ;D
