Seat removal
DavidP:
Advice please. I just bought my first Z750 a 04 model which needs a bit of love, has a bit of rust on the frame and swing arm and I have started to strip it down but I've come across a problem. I can't get the saddle off. I've checked in a service and repair manual and it say insert the key into the lock on the rear left hand side of the bike just under the saddle, turn and the passenger saddle will tilt up but...there ain't no lock or key receiver there!
Any suggestions?

The 04 wasn't sold in the States, so I'm assuming you're in the U.K. or somewhere. It's hard to see, since this site doesn't offer magnification, but look at http://www.cornwallkawasaki.co.uk/shop/shop.php?cmd=showdiagram&id=19150

there is a hole for a key underneath on the left side , get on your knees and have a good look, key in, turn and lift rear seat, then inside that space there is a bracket with i think a 8mm or 10mm bolt, slacken that and remove front seat

KIV there's a rubber gromet covering the key hole, you have to pull this out to see the hole.

Sorted!
Thanks for your help guys...the key location was indeed right under the left hand side of the bike and the recess had a rubber bung covering it very similar to the quick rivets around it so it's now time to strip it down.
